It has become quite the tradition for the kids to go to the Farmer’s Market every week during the summer. They love playing in Mr. Cliff’s truck, checking out the food and items at other booths, and of course, eating peaches!

I Heart Faces: Summer Fun
Going to the Farmer’s Market to eat peaches has been a summer tradition in our family for the past few years. My kids LOVE the peaches!

Farmer’s Market
My kids love peaches. They love peaches because they get to eat some really good peaches. They are spoiled by these peaches. They are also spoiled to getting to go to the Famer’s Market every week (sometimes twice a week) to get these peaches. We have a friend who grows and sells these peaches, and when Ella was a little younger than Troy is now, my husband started taking her regularly to the Farmer’s Market. It has become a summer tradition for my husband (and sometimes I tag along) to take the kids to get these peaches. I tagged along a couple of times last week and got a few photos of the kids and peaches.

Homemade Baby Food: Peaches
(To read my introduction to homemade baby food, click here. To read Wholesome Baby Food’s information on peaches, click here.)
There are many different ways you can go about preparing the peaches. We chose to remove the pit and cut up slices of the peaches (with the skin removed) prior to cooking the peaches. My husband so sweetly volunteered to remove the pits and slice the peaches up for me.
I blanched the peach slices in boiling water for approximately 4 minutes.
After the peaches have been cooking for 4 minutes, remove the peaches and place them in a bowl of cold water.
Place the cooked peaches into a food processor or blender, and blend until you like the consistency (generally thinner for younger babies and thicker for older babies). You can add the cooking water (or breastmilk or formula) to thin out the peaches. You can also add cereal to thicken the peaches. The peaches I cooked were quite liquidy (is that a word?), so I added cereal to thicken up the mixture.
Distribute the peaches into the ice cube trays, cover, and place in the freezer. Once they are frozen, remove from the ice cube trays and store them in the freezer.

Farmer's Market and More Peaches
Since this was the last week of peaches at the farmer's market, we got a huge box full of peaches that needed to be cut up and frozen. We quick boiled the peaches so that we could easily remove the skin, removed the skin, cut them up into pieces, and then froze the pieces in a sugar lemon-water mixture. We'll have yummy peaches for Ella to enjoy for quite a while! Processing the peaches reminded me of my baby food making days!

Peaches!
We've been visiting with my parents who have a few peach trees on their property. Ella enjoyed some of their peaches as well, and also had fun helping her dad get rid of the bad peaches (aka, she tried to throw them like dad over the fence). :)
